Core Values
Everything we do and are springs from our core values. We
value:
Healthy Relationships—Jesus said that we will be recognized
as His disciples by our love. He didn’t mention our giftings. Relationship is
the highest priority for those who want to be truly spiritual. The fruit of the
Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5 mainly deal with how we interact with others.
Since we value relationships we have small groups to develop community and we
have coffee after services so that people can hang out and talk. We strive to
learn to love well.
Honor—Honor for God and honor for others. We recognize each
individual as truly unique and appropriately so. We do not try to make people
over into our image but we call out the image of God within them. We handle
conflicts and concerns with honor, not trying to protect ourselves but the
relationship that God is fostering between us. We truly believe that others are
greater than ourselves (Philippians 2).
Freedom—We are more interested in God having freedom in what
we do than us having freedom, though we fight for both. We give people room to
express their love for Him in any way they want. This allows people to grow up
into truly unique individuals, not imitations of someone else. Since we value relationships
we hold that freedom is never to be expressed at the expense of someone else,
honor is the key that holds us together.
Creativity—God decides what is beautiful. We believe that
all artistic expression—painting, drawing, dancing, clothing, poetry—comes from
the same creative essence of God that caused the universe to be so beautiful.
We desire to tap into that creative essence because as we do He is glorified.
Excellence—God is worth our best. Pursuing excellence is
different than pursuing perfection. We value people doing the best they can do.
We do not offer God service that is haphazard or un-thoughtful—we give Him our
best. We desire to be like Daniel that had an excellent spirit. Whether it be
in worship, art, preaching, or serving—we do the best we can do because it is
for the King!
Service—Service reminds us that we are not God. Service is
first to God. Our first and most important call it to serve God, to minister to
Him. Out of that flows the ability to serve and minister to the church and then
the world.
Reality—We want God to move! We don’t think He needs help.
When He does something, it is really done and there is proof. When He heals
someone, they actually are healed, they do not have to run around saying they
are when they are not. We keep contending until we see the reality. We expect
God to move and He does—often.
Revival—This means so many things to different people. When
we talk about revival we are not talking about good meetings—that should be
normal. We are talking about the conscious manifestation of the presence of God
that stops those that know Him and those He is drawing in their tracks. We are
talking about spontaneous repentance. We are talking about radical life-change
for a whole community. This is what we contend for. This is what we are
expecting.
